![]() I've been a lifelong Maine resident, and I've always liked LL Bean and I still shop there for plenty of things - Shirts, socks, pants, etc, but their outdoor gear is of poor quality and extremely overpriced, and all the other "Made in China" novelties they stock can be ordered at 1/10th of the price from the internet and typically only lacks the "LL Bean" logo. They'll give you a $50 gift certificate "in the spirit of the guarantee" so you can go buy another $300 jacket from them. The fabric is thinner, the zippers are all plastic and notorious for breaking, and Bean's "cheats" you out of their lifetime guarantee by rapidly discontinuing styles so if you're like me and bought a new Bean winter coat last year and the goddamned plastic zipper broke (poor decision on my part too, IMO) when you go to return it. Except you pay a huge markup and the gear just isn't as good any more. ![]() Maybe LL Bean circa 1980, or 1990, or maybe 1999, but for at least the past decade Maine residents often refer to Bean's as "LL China" because literally everything there is made in. The other two had the gall to say it to my face, but in one case my manager was too afraid of bad publicity to ban the guy, and in the other I was just too apathetic to do anything because by that time as Newegg was able to sell things cheaper than we could get them from distributors so I had begun hating my job and the hardware retail industry as a whole. In the case of one I figured it out because her behavior was suspicious and I started checking serials (Again, this was back before people were assholes like this on such a regular basis so serial checking wasn't really part of the normal process.) They would buy whatever part they required to get their PC Running from us, Order the replacement online, then return either the original or the replacement they ordered. (Which at the time was very lenient, prettymuch any reason as long as it was in like-new condition, without a restocking fee.) When I worked at a computer store, I ran into a small number (3) who would take advantage of out 15 day Refund policy. And now that I'm a little more svelte, I can shop the LL Bean Signature collection. I'm a good, lifelong customer unless all their products start showing the same made-in-china quality teir Mocs did a few years back. You're god damned right I'll return them time and time again until I get a pair that holds together.Īnyway, that's just an example of how I use their guarantee. For those keeping count, I'm $120 out for slippers. ![]() With light wear, wool is wearing off, little toe blew out on right slipper. Bought another pair, sheepwhool wore off on the heel within a few months, returned them. First I bought, was happy with for two years, then lost in a cross-state move. What I will be returning are my Men's Wicked Moc slippers. I was satisfied with the shirts, I won't be returning them. But they're great shirts, still look new after wearing them all summer. I'll get around to donating them and not returning them.Ĭould I say "someone bought these as a gift and they don't fit, I'd like properly fitting ones"? Yes, absolutely I could. Example, I bought two gingham shirts, Xl/Tall, this past spring amd then had the bright idea to go and lose 70 pounds. I don't know if I'm the norm, but I use their return system whenever, and this is subjective but clearly stated, I'm not satisfied with something. I grew up in Maine, and every time I go back there I stop at the flagship store.
